35 starsIt's been several years since I last read this book and I'm now in a very different place in life Peer is genuine in her desire to point readers to Jesus and she does so repeatedly Her tone is patient and gentle and there is a lot of solid wisdom in this book I disagree with some minor statements here and there but overall I appreciate her messageThe book is focused on Titus 23 5Likewise teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine but to teach what is good Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children to be self controlled and pure to be busy at home to be kind and to be subject to their husbands so that no one will malign the word of God Because of this Peer assumes all her readers are wives and mothers though the book description doesn't make that very clear There were a few comments about single women still having value but they seemed to me to be merely disclaimersThere were several typographical errors which I found distracting Also Peer repeatedly used the term help mate in referring to the Genesis account of the creation of Eve when the actual translation is help meet While much of what the author says is balanced and biblical the principles applying to all women Peer really isn't speaking to single or childless womenObedience to God is a very strong way of seeking Him p 219What we learn from God becomes part of our thinking our actions and our speech His words and ways become ours p 22Often upon being exposed to the character of a godly woman we begin the fatal process of 'focusing on ourselves in order to become godly' Because Christianity is not a self improvement course the longer we go to ourselves as the resource for anything the longer we fail As we begin to look at the character ualities of a godly woman let us not lose sight of the fact that these ualities are the byproduct of a woman who has learned to drink deeply of the living God p 56
