WowPhilip Edwin Moore the author facilitated a corporate team building seminar that my coworkers and I found confusing at best Sandwiched between typical team building type activities like get to know you games brainstorming and frank feedback for management all presented by others Moore himself delivered a 45 minute acid trip about TeddyShark as a metaphor for our corporate culture Since none of us knew anything about TeddyShark though the metaphor was lost on us It was fascinating to listen to; it was so out there—yet appeared self consistent—we couldn't wait for the big reveal that explained why our CEO was an eagle and some of us were bears without our sharks There were snakes tooWhen he was through we looked around at each other with a single shared thought WTF?At the end of the seminar Moore reuested that we email any constructive criticism we had on the presentations in return for which he would provide us a copy of his book and the associated plush toy How could we not? Not knowing what to expect I was really just hoping to get the TeddyShark backstory I figured it would shed light on the inscrutable allegory he was trying to convey during the seminarUnfortunately this book—a collection of poems Moore wrote during a 1997 vision uest—didn't do that The personalized inscription in my copy hints that all my uestions may not be answered unless I make a conscious effort to see The book also comes with a Reader Information WarningThis material is highly charged and should be handled with care Those with little awareness may become drowsy and may in some cases lose consciousness altogether Otherswith high levels of awareness may become disoriented in space and time with symptoms that include a rapid increase in heart rate as well as elevated blood pressure After exposure minimize dizziness or lightheadedness by getting up slowly from a seated or lying position Thinkers with rigid inflexible all knowing belief systems and attitudes should abstain from this material as a severe allergic reaction is likely USE CARE when operating in a car or around dangerous machineryThe plush toy? It's a teddy bear riding a shark—take a moment to form that mental image—sporting a real turkey feather and faux pearl in a secret zippered pocket The shark has a green snake embroidered on it's bellyIt was a huge hit with the kids actually
