Dust check Tears check Interesting storyline The Christian bent of the story wasn't too much to tolerate it didn't affect the readability of the novel too much Too many deaths Which I guess is true to life especially for the setting of this particular story

This novel chronicles Karl and Jon Thorensen's uest to establish a homestead chain in North Dakota in the 1880s The story begins when the brothers and their families disembark from the ships in New York and follow them as they struggle to prove up their claims The families suffer through many calamities as they work side by side trying to fulfill the governments reuirements I enjoy historical fiction and have read other novels dealing with this subject and I felt that the author did a good job of describing most of the processes involved She went into enough detail to give you the general idea without becoming boring My only criticism would be that the book ends very abruptly I understand that there is a seuel to this book however if believe that there could have been a smoother ending
