I enjoyed this collection It definitely emphasizes comforting family eating rather than fussy dishes which is much in keeping with how I cook I'm not really a carve rose radishes kinda person I have a couple dishes I'm going to try Gravadlax with Mustard Dill Sauce because I love Gravadlax and her instructions make it seem simple also I figure with sushi grade salmon I probably won't kill us; Smoked Trout Avocado and Tomato Tians look great and since they can be prepared ahead of time should work well with summer entertaining; and Pork Stroganoff looks so easy to pull together for a weekday meal Along with her Harissa Lamb and Cannellini Beans; Onion Courgette and Blue Cheese Puff Tarts I really don't use enough puff pastry in my starters; and there's a Fennel Slaw included that I'm interesting in attempting since I've not perfected my own I did make her uickest Lemon Meringue Pie and it was It felt like cheating Using sweetened condensed milk for the filling along with the lemon juice rind and egg yolks was ridiculously easy in comparison to dragging out a double boiler Of course refusing to sacrifice the few chocolate digestives I had hoarded I substituted a graham cracker crust instead I couldn't find my fluted tart pan and had to use tartlets which wasn't optimal for crust formation as it left less room for filling The meringue turned out beautiful if a tad too firm for my taste but that's because I over whipped them Start to finish you can assemble this pie in about fifteen minutes at a leisurely pace including zesting and sueezing the lemonsOverall a nice twist on some easy and delicious mealsETA Apr 17 2018I made the Pork Stroganoff and very easy Regretfully I neglected to add the lemon juice at the end because my husband was circling the kitchen and I really think it would have added a nice note to cut through the mellow silkiness of the sauce It seems like a lot of mushrooms for the amount of meat but it's really not remember mushrooms cook down tremendously I doubled the onion because I love onion and I could have gone heavier on the paprika as well I did used smoked paprika instead of sweet so that the combination with the onions did not become cloying Additionally I substituted light sour cream instead of full fat creme fraiche trying not to kill us and it worked fine

Excellent book from one of UK’s favourite cooks Recipes really work and are easy to follow Many can be prepared in advance great if you’re having pals round for dinner

I'm a huge Mary Berry fan but I have to admit not as many recipes appealed to me in this book as I'd expected when I ordered itA lot of the appetizers and desserts look amazing but the main dishes weren't as compelling as I'd hoped Maybe once I start trying a few I'll change my mind and try As other reviewers have mentioned there are a lot of hard to find ingredients for those of us who don't live in the UK but that's to be expected for a British cookbook For the most part easy substitutes can be found with the help of GoogleGorgeous photography and I love the little stories and anecdotes throughout Will update once I've tried a few recipes

British cookbooks are fun because A I know very well that I'm not going to take the trouble to convert the metric measurements to try the recipes and B I learn about things you can apparently just get all the time in the UK such as uail eggs runny honey gammon and cuts of lamb other than the occasional chops we get here but only at easter Also learned making chutney is like making vegetable jam which makes me wonder how it's related to vegamite Is vegamite just overcooked chutney that's been mashed? What kind of chilli is it in the chutney recipe are all chillis the same in the UK?I learn so much from Mary Berry

Beautiful photos and lots of yummy achievable food with Mary chatting to you as you go Yes of course there will always be some recipes you don't like but when you want to cook most of them you know you're onto a winner And I love that she still talks about dinner parties I wish they were a part of my life I've always wanted to make my own canapés I know I'm mad But then I enjoy reading cookery books so what can you do?

I wanted to try so many of the recipes in this book but had to return it to the library before I'd made a dent in it Mary's salmon recipe was wonderful but I really messed up on her lemon bars I will need to give them another try following the recipe exactly
