In a word I devoured this book At the same time I was scared out of my wits The premise is simply terrifying especially as a woman reader Dana meets a handsome man on the last night of her business trip She can't believe her luck at first; Mike Sweeney is smart and interesting He buys her dinner takes her to a stage show and then brings her back to her hotel Neither Dana nor Mike are uite ready to say goodnight so they go to Dana's hotel room And that's when the nightmare really beginsDrugged and duct taped to a chair Dana finds out that the man who seemed like a prince is really a monster Mike vows to return to Dana in one year to kill her And it seems like he has thought of everything He shows her a scrapbook of previous victims two who disobeyed his orders and involved the police and one who embraced his offer of a year of life lived to the fullest all murdered Dana is literally paralyzed with fear Every move she makes is monitored and she doesn't know who to turn to for help Enter Carter MaysTogether with Dana and her best friend Erin Carter takes the case and sets about finding out exactly who Mike Sweeney is and how to free Dana from his sinister gripI have to say that this book was terrifying to me But in the best way I was hooked by the story and the premise and as scared as I was by the actions of such a cold and calculating killer I was that much intrigued by what would happen next and how Dana could possibly manage to be free of him Scheduled to Die is smart and crisp; a fast paced thriller that I guarantee will keep you turning the pagesMy thanks to the team at Henery Press for the gifted copy of Scheduled to Die via NetGalley I was not reuired to provide a favorable review

Scheduled to Die is a wonderful mystery story with a delightful bit of romance on the side This is the second in the Carter Mays Mystery series and it’s almost impossible to put down By that I mean that I didn’t until it was about three in the morning and I was nodding I actually had to come to a lull in the action before I could give up for the nightAlan Cupp the very talented author has penned an exciting and masterfully written tale of terror We get another chance to follow the handsome and fiercely honorable Carter Mays PI in his latest case to help protect a lovely young lady who has been targeted by a sociopath and murderer I don’t do spoilers so I’ll just say this is a magnificently twisted and thrilling storyThe neatly chronicled detective work mixed with expertly choreographed acts of terror and suspense take you on a thrilling ride through the absolute hell of a deranged mind This story has so much fine and well documented action it leaves you practically breathless but compelled to keep turning those pagesGrab something bracing to fortify your nerves maybe a few tissues and a nail file for the damage your teeth will inflict on said nails and get comfy for this exciting journeyEnjoy and don’t forget to breatheCopy supplied by author

The characters are well rounded This is a story that can be read as a stand alone My rating for Scheduled to Die is 4 out of 5 stars The reason for this is I missed the warning that it was a hard boiled crime thriller instead of the light cozy mystery I expected If you enjoy the psychological thriller and crime drama's then you will absolutely love this series link Barnes and Noble link GoodReads link The Reading Room link

SCHEDULED TO DIE has a very interesting premise with an eually interesting and diabolical serial killer As the book opens Dana Carrington is on business in Asheville North Carolina when an attractive man joins her at the table where she is dining alone and then takes her out for a show When they arrive back at her hotel Dana finds out that Mike Sweeney is not the charming companion she thought he was He drugs her ties her up and offers her a deal he feels she cannot resist He will give her a year to live her life to the fullest doing all the things that she might have ever dreamed up At the end of the year he will kill her painlessly However if she goes to the police he will torture and kill her much sooner And he proves he means what he promises by showing her a scrapbook containing photos of his earlier victims – some who took advantage of his deal and some who did notWhen Dana returns home to Chicago shaken and scared she turns to her friend Erin who connects Dana with Carter Mays a private investigator to help Dana find Mike Sweeney before he can harm her Unfortunately Mike finds other ways to hurt Dana as he targets first Erin then Dana's mother and then her dog Carter offers to help Dana learn to protect herself and he starts with a lesson on psychological strength that comes in handy as the dynamic between Mike and Dana plays outThis is a short and very fast read giving every appearance of being an outline for a fleshed out later draft It captures the reader's interest and as a very straightforward skeleton of a book it satisfies However I couldn't help wondering how much better the book would have been if Alan Cupp had gone back and provided details about the characters and plot line The linear narrative simple descriptions and even very basic dialogue led me to believe the book wasn't uite finished Although there is a resolution it would have had of an impact if some of the characters' motivations were fully developedThis is the second book in the Carter Mays series Perhaps with the third Cupp will fill in the details He clearly has a great imagination to dream up the complexities of the plot of SCHEDULED TO DIE If he uses that imagination and fully develops the plot and characters his series could become a great oneThis review first appeared at wwwreviewingtheevidencecom

Scheduled to Die Alan Cupp 4 stars What do you do if you are told you have a year to live? Not by a doctor but by your murdererThis is the second book in the Carter Mays series and whilst I haven’t read the first yet this was on its own a really enjoyable bookIt is uite short and readable in a day or two which is good as the suspense just keeps on rising and I couldn’t put it downDana Carrington is on a business trip to Asheville and is just beginning her dinner in a nice restaurant when she is approached by Mike Sweeney He seems nice and so she accepts his invitation to dine together Later she allows him to walk her back to her hotel and up to her room where she learns he is not ‘nice’ at allDana is drugged and wakes up with her legs and arms bound to a chair Sweeney then takes some photos of her and tells her his plans First he reassures the terrified Dana that he is not going to hurt her not now anyway but wants to give her a gift This ‘gift’ is a year to enjoy her life to the full at the end of which he will kill her He is clearly deranged but Dana is left in no doubt that he will carry out his threat when he shows her a graphic scrapbook with photos of his previous victims If she goes to the police he will kill her immediatelyDana returns home and to her best friend Erin who persuades her to enlist the help of a private detective Carter MaysWhat follows is a rollercoaster of action as Sweeney stalks Dana her mother and Erin Whilst Carter Mays tries to keep them safe he cannot be everywhere and Sweeney is always one step ahead This novel is extremely well written as one should expect from a highly creative author who is able to come up with such an original plot The characters are realistic with my only criticism being the amount of crying the women did; honestly women do not dissolve into tears at each misfortune this is the 21st Century Carter Mays is an engaging character and I look forward to reading about him whilst Sweeney had me checking the window locksA really impressive and chilling thriller I loved it and heartily recommend itPashtpaws Best Selling Crime Thrillers were given an advanced copy of this book to review
