Short and breezy yet a delectable read that s full to the brim with festive vibes and beautiful snow This is my second Jessica Redland and she entertained me once again, I enjoyed reading this Christmas novella Although I haven t read any of the previous books and didn t know this is actually the 6th book in the Whistborough Bay series, I didn t feel even a second that I was lost or confused The strong, solid, evocative writing kept me engaged and occupied the entire time I was reading it Short and breezy yet a delectable read that s full to the brim with festive vibes and beautiful snow This is my second Jessica Redland and she entertained me once again, I enjoyed reading this Christmas novella Although I haven t read any of the previous books and didn t know this is actually the 6th book in the Whistborough Bay series, I didn t feel even a second that I was lost or confused The strong, solid, evocative writing kept me engaged and occupied the entire time I was reading it, this book can perfectly be read as a standalone It worked perfectly as is That said though, I must also admit there s just one thing I suspect I would have felt differently had I read the previous books in the series I don t even know whether the series revolves around Carly, the protagonist of this book or Bethany, her baby sister who has a self esteem issue, but a huge chunk of this book is spent on a mayhem describing Bethany s emotional meltdown from her strong conviction of being a complete failure and I wished so much pages hadn t been spent going on and on at that The main plot Carly s fear of rejection and the prospect of unrequited love with her best friend, Liam is strong and engaging enough, I thought this main plot itself worked just fine without Bethany being all drama queen and causing a lot of damage both mentally and substantially to Carly In fact, well, this may come from me being ignorant from not reading the previous books but I just couldn t wrap my head around how Carly could be so protective and supportive of Bethany Bethany s clumsiness and her litany of mistakes put me off quite a lot, and I failed to identify with Bethany for being so melodramatic as though the world were crumbling down in front of her I might make myself sound a bit harsh and cold but as I could usea lotfocus on the romance between Carly and Liam rather than Bethany My impression on this aspect is subject to change once I pick up the entire series and get to knowabout the big picture, but as far as this book is concerned, the excessive amount of focus on Bethany s self esteem was the biggest issue that I had with this book Other than that, I was perfectly happy with this book Carly s ambivalent, fluctuating emotional states and her feelings toward Liam are wonderfully executed and heartfelt, the pacing was just right, spot on The countdown narration style toward Christmas also added to the mounting anticipation and a bit of trepidation on Carly s side , I was so eager to find out how Liam and Carly would end up while I was so sure that the feelings were mutual The sparks are flying everywhere, who could miss the chemistry The overall story is beautiful and cathartic weaving some subplots of contrition and redemption, while Bethany s rapid bounce back regaining her confidence and equilibrium came across a bit too convenient in my eyes, this book delivered what I was expecting from a holiday read Love in any form, forgiveness, and a bit of Christmas magic Sweet and snappy yet a strong read Now that I dipped my toe in the Whitsborough Bay series, there is no way not to read the entire series 3.75 stars go to this festive, adorable novella and go back to Book one
