I'm not a big reader of poetry, so when I do read it, I like it to really make an impact and not to be to stuffy and needlessly wordy. 'All of Me' by Kevine Walcott an anthology full of poems that are accessible and meaningful, with something that will resonate with everyone. The poetry explores so many different themes, from love and lust, and from mental illness to the Mona Lisa.

I think he one that stuck with me the most was 'The Nation-State' as it is so current and so insightful, and I think there could be many different interpretations of it depending on your views.

“As you permeate every sphere of our lives, roll back the State and power to the people, they cry –
But could anyone live without your ‘big brother’ eyes?
With your army, the police on the beat, and the cameras on our streets, you make us safe”

It is an anthology of such different poems, each of which will make you think and feel in different ways.

Kevine Walcott’s collection of poetry, All of Me, is an outstanding anthology that really demonstrates the staying power and relevance of poetry in the modern-day.

Walcott leaves no stone unturned as he tackles a wide array of different subjects, including things like love, loss, and even mental illness. Walcott does not shy away from any of these topics and as such, they feel all the more human and significant. It is hard to deny the impact that these poems have on the reader. His riffs on modern life are both refreshing and thought-provoking.

In an age where we all live behind screens and have less and less meaningful interactions, All of Me is an excellent reminder of some of the beauty that exists in the world. This is the perfect book to read for those who are looking for some excellent contemporary poetry.
